Purple Tuesday – Changing the Customer Experience

Purple Tuesday 2019 takes place on 12th November and is an international call to action which focuses on changing the customer experience for disabled people. It involves organisations of all sizes and from all sectors taking decisive, practical actions to meet the needs of disabled customers.

Throughout the UK, the Purple Pound – the consumer spending power of disabled people and their families – is worth an estimated £249 billion and this figure is rising by an average of 14% every year. Worldwide, the Purple Pound equates to £2.25 trillion! However, less than 10% of businesses have a targeted plan to access and cater for this disability market.

Purple Tuesday is all about raising awareness of the value and needs of disabled customers and taking positive steps to make the customer experience accessible for everyone. Organisations taking part in Purple Tuesday this year will make public commitments of at least one new activity or initiative to ensure sustainable changes are made.

The Purple Tuesday initiative is free for all organisations to get involved with. Examples of new commitments to improve accessibility for disabled people include completing an online accessibility audit, completing a site access audit, providing customer service training, formalising quiet hours and training staff in British Sign Language.

At Able2 Wear, all of our products are available to browse and order online via our accessible website. We understand that it can be difficult for disabled people to get to shops to try on clothes so we also offer a simple returns or exchange service. Although we try to make our website as accessible as possible, and we’re always making improvements, our friendly customer service team are always happy to help and are available at the end of the phone (0141 775 3738) or contactable by email (customersupport@able2wear.co.uk).
